In a world where efficiency is king, Large Language Models (LLMs) like OpenAI’s ChatGPT promise speed, clarity, and endless inspiration.
I’ve previously written about the risk of professional irrelevance in the age of AI (I’ll include that link at the end of this post).
But as we rush to integrate generative AI into every aspect of productivity, a new — and perhaps more insidious — cost is emerging: cognitive debt.
A recent study by researchers at the MIT Media Lab, titled “Your Brain on ChatGPT: Accumulation of Cognitive Debt when Using an AI Assistant for Essay Writing Tasks”, takes a rigorous, neuroscience-based approach to evaluating the impact of using AI tools during a common intellectual activity: essay writing. This study offers critical insights that entrepreneurs, educators, and decision-makers cannot afford to ignore.
