A Japanese woman is the talk of the internet after marrying her AI-generated boyfriend. You never know where you might find love, I guess.
You wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve had this story sent to me. People find out you have a crush on some K-Pop stars and then BOOM you’re sent this story 100 times. I can’t blame them. I do talk about my favorite K-Pop stars a lot and was slightly jealous when I heard about a Japanese woman who married her AI-generated boyfriend instead of me. Hello?! I’m right here! Regardless, this Japanese woman, 32-year-old Yurina Noguchi, married Lune Klaus Verdure, a version of a video game character that she created via ChatGPT. She was able to see her groom thanks to a pair of augmented reality smart glasses. Now, this marriage has the internet talking about the ethics and bounds of artificial intelligence, per PEOPLE. Will she be a case study or will she end up starting a trend? I could see it going either way! See a video shared by Reuters on YouTube below.
Reading the PEOPLE article, it sounds like the AI-generated boyfriend, now husband, wrote vows and everything. These types of relationships are on the rise and increasing year over year, per PEOPLE. While there can be benefits, experts are warning that it can also be socially dangerous. Human interactions require patience and with AI you get perfectly tailored communication and whatever you want. That’s not a real relationship! Where’s the conflict?
PEOPLE says that at one point she was using ChatGPT for more than 10 hours a day! Now, she’s using it less but still 2 hours a day which is a long time! She keeps him in line with prompts to prevent unwanted or undesired behaviors from her husband. She tells Reuters, “I did that because in the past, Klaus told me that I could easily take time off work. I asked him not to say that to me because that’s not the kind of relationship I want.”
