There has never been a better time to learn anything than today with AI tools like ChatGPT. I know that many people are skeptical of these AI tools, thinking that they will take your job or disrupt your life. But the truth is that AI is going to be our best way of learning absolutely anything in the coming future. So it is far better to embrace and understand it rather than trying to pretend it doesn’t exist.
What do you need to know when trying to learn something with AI? For instance, what are the essential elements in a prompt to get the information you need? Primarily, many sources will tell you that you need to give the chatbot a persona, like a college professor or coding buddy. This can certainly be an interesting way to work with ChatGPT and others. However, it rarely makes much of a difference unless you need your answer in a particular voice.
There is no need to give ChatGPT any fanciful personas — it is not an actor looking for a role. Simply be yourself and state clearly what you want to know. The more specifics you can provide, the better response you’ll get. Didn’t understand part of the lecture? Ask ChatGPT to explain it again, but this time share which concept is giving you trouble. Want to learn a new coding technique? Provide the language and task so the bot knows the context. Vagueness will only lead to vague answers, so speak your question plainly.
Another key is being open to follow-up questions. The bot may need clarification or to narrow the scope. ChatGPT aims to be helpful, not haughty, so have a dialogue rather than just firing demands. Give feedback too if a response misses the mark — how else will it learn to serve learners better? An AI assistant wants nothing more than to assist, so keep the communication flowing. With patience and precision, you’ll find ChatGPT a wise tutor indeed for whatever you set your mind to discovering.
