OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Team to Target SMBs – UC Today

ChatGPT Team is similar to ChatGPT Enterprise, but is targeting teams of 150 users or less

OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Team, a paid subscription service for its AI platform targeting SMBs.
Bundled between ChatGPT Plus (for individuals) and ChatGPT Enterprise (for large businesses), ChatGPT Team echoes many of the latter’s features.
The subscription entails access to the up-to-date GPT-4 large language model (LLM) and DALL-E 3 image generator, secure control over business data, the capability to create custom GPTs, shared workspace, an admin console for workspace and team management, advanced data analysis, and early access to new features and improvements. However, ChatGPT Team is designed for teams of 150 users or less.
OpenAI’s announcement blog wrote:
ChatGPT Team offers access to our advanced models like GPT-4 and DALL·E 3, and tools like Advanced Data Analysis. It additionally includes a dedicated collaborative workspace for your team and admin tools for team management. As with ChatGPT Enterprise, you own and control your business data—we do not train on your business data or conversations, and our models don’t learn from your usage.”
OpenAI had been testing ChatGPT Team with select customers. These include Boston Children’s Hospital, whose Chief Innovation Officer, Dr. John Brownstein, said the testing programme allowed them to “pilot innovative GPTs that enhance our team’s productivity and collaboration”.
Pricing begins at $25 per user per month when billed annually and $30 per user per month when done so monthly.
Last week, it was reported that OpenAI is in discussions around a new round of funding valued at $100 billion or higher.
As first reported by Bloomberg, which cited sources close to the matter, the terms, valuation, and timing for the funding round are yet to be finalised, and they remain subject to potential adjustments.
OpenAI is also allegedly on track to finalise a further agreement with its second-largest investor, Thrive Capital, which the report indicated would allow OpenAI employees to sell shares valued at $86 billion. Microsoft is currently OpenAI’s most prominent investor, having put around $13 billion into the company since 2019 and having integrated its GPT LLMs across several of its products.
OpenAI also featured in one of 2023’s most dramatic tech stories.
CEO Sam Altman was ousted as OpenAI CEO by its board on Friday, November 17. After an outraged response from OpenAI investors and employees, Altman and the board discussed a potential return over the following weekend before negotiations broke down. Microsoft then released a statement saying it had hired Altman and Brockman to manage an advanced AI research team overnight on Sunday, but this turned out to be premature.
That Monday, a letter signed by over 700 of OpenAI’s 770 employees demanded the board’s resignations and Altman’s return; otherwise, they would leave themselves to follow Altman to Microsoft. On Tuesday night, 21 November, Altman was reinstated, the previous board was removed, and a new interim one was put into place to oversee the hiring of the next permanent group.
However, this saga saw the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) launch a probe into Microsoft and OpenAI’s relationship, especially with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella publicly highlighting the need for improved governance of OpenAI, as well as the Seattle-based tech giant subsequently securing a nonvoting position on OpenAI’s new board.
