Artificial Intelligence (AI) has imprinted its mark across various industries, and now it’s making a foray into the world of cinema. In a unique engagement, MailOnline, a popular digital tabloid, sought the expertise of AI model ChatGPT to create a dream cast for a hypothetical Hollywood adaptation of The Nativity.
The AI model’s suggestions for the cast were intriguing and well-considered. For the pivotal role of Mary, it proposed either Natalie Portman or Jessica Chastain. Joaquin Phoenix or Oscar Isaac were deemed suitable for the part of Joseph, and for the role of Angel Gabriel, it suggested the enigmatic Cate Blanchett. The antagonistic character of Herod could be portrayed by Ralph Fiennes, according to the AI.
The AI model didn’t stop at the primary characters. It further proposed the casting of Javier Bardem, Morgan Freeman, and Idris Elba as the three Wise Men. Hugh Jackman, Michael B. Jordan, and Dev Patel were suggested to play the Shepherds. The role of Baby Jesus, the AI model proposed, could be brought to life either through CGI or by casting an infant actor.
Adding a touch of cinematic grandeur, the AI model suggested Anthony Hopkins to lend his voice for the narrator’s role. However, it emphasized that the final decision would ultimately rest on the filmmakers’ preferences, the film’s style, tone, and the director’s vision.
This unique exercise of AI suggesting a cast list for The Nativity underscores the AI’s potential in the entertainment industry. It also reminds us of The Nativity Scene tradition, dating back to 1223, performed annually at Christmas. Over the years, The Nativity has seen several movie adaptations, including a 2006 film starring Oscar Isaac as Joseph.
It’s noteworthy to mention that in addition to the casting suggestions, ChatGPT also provided a recipe for the perfect Christmas sandwich, encapsulating the festive spirit of the season.
