Alibaba has launched a new AI chatbot assistant integrated into its Quark app, marking a renewed push into consumer AI services. The company said the chatbot, available for free, supports both text and voice interactions, allowing users to access real-time information and digital services through a conversational interface.
The Quark app, which started as a browser, has been rebranded as Alibaba’s flagship consumer platform with advanced AI-powered features, including intelligent search. The chatbot is powered by Alibaba’s latest Qwen3 models, which enhance reasoning, understanding, and task execution abilities.

This launch follows Alibaba’s previous attempts to attract users through its Tongyi AI assistant app, which has seen limited success compared to rivals. As of September, Tongyi recorded nearly 7 million monthly active users, far behind ByteDance’s Doubao with 150 million, DeepSeek with 73.4 million, and Tencent’s AI assistant with 64.2 million.
Alibaba hopes the Quark chatbot will strengthen its position in a market dominated by competitors. The company also continues to focus on AI integration across its cloud and enterprise services while seeking broader consumer engagement.

Separately, Alibaba announced that pre-sales for its new Quark AI Glasses will begin Friday on Tmall, priced at 4,699 yuan ($659). The wearable device, first unveiled in July, positions Alibaba among global tech leaders like Meta in the expanding market for AI-powered smart glasses.
