Apple Develops AI Chatbot to Enhance Siri and Search Experience – Букви
As reported by the media Bloomberg
Apple is actively working on creating its own chatbot, despite having signed a deal with OpenAI last year to integrate ChatGPT into Siri. Previously, Apple also introduced an artificial intelligence platform called Apple Intelligence. This information was reported by Bloomberg.
To implement the new project, Apple formed a team called Answers, Knowledge and Information. This team is developing AI services aimed at creating a search experience similar to ChatGPT. The team is led by Robbie Walker, who previously headed the development of Siri and has brought several key specialists who worked on the voice assistant to the new project.
Currently, the team is in the early stages of work but is already developing an “answer mechanism” – a system capable of scanning web pages to find answers to common questions. There is consideration of launching a standalone app as well as creating new infrastructure to support search functions in future versions of Siri, Spotlight, and Safari.
It is worth noting that the chatbot may only appear in the distant future, as work on it has just begun.
At present, Apple Intelligence focuses on summarizing notifications, rewriting text, generating Genmoji images, and cleaning up photos. However, it lacks AI-based conversational search similar to ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini.
While Siri can handle basic queries, it often redirects users to ChatGPT or a general Google web search. This puts Apple in a vulnerable position since the company has never developed its own search engine.
There are two reasons for this: first, Google’s search engine is superior, and second, Alphabet Inc. pays Apple about $20 billion a year to remain the default search engine on Apple devices. However, this deal may change as the U.S. Department of Justice plans to tighten regulations, potentially leading to significant financial losses for Apple.
