Apple Testing ChatGPT-Style Siri For iPhones: Here’s What We Know – Mashable India

Apple has secretly developed a ChatGPT-style app, but it’s only for internal use. Bloomberg reports that the tool is being used to test a major Siri overhaul, aimed at giving it sharper contextual awareness, multitasking abilities across apps, and deeper integration with personal data. Essentially, Apple is working on making Siri smarter, more proactive, and equipped with a stronger memory, but it’s not coming to the App Store anytime soon.
NEW: Apple has developed an iPhone app that rivals ChatGPT — but it’s internal-only to test and prepare for next year’s AI-driven Siri overhaul. Details here — https://t.co/FGgf5Pbmf8 — Mark Gurman (@markgurman) September 26, 2025
Apple is testing an experimental chatbot, codenamed Veritas, to trial next-generation Siri features. The tool allows Apple engineers to experiment with deeper personal data integration, like accessing emails and music libraries, while also handling in-app functions such as photo editing. Although restricted to internal use, the project underscores Apple’s push to reinvent its long-criticized voice assistant.

Veritas looks and functions much like mainstream AI chatbots, supporting multiple conversations, memory of past exchanges, and more natural, free-flowing dialogues. It is powered by a new framework called Linwood, which blends Apple’s own large language models (LLMs) with external AI technology. This setup mirrors the ChatGPT playbook but is customized for Apple’s internal testing.

Apple originally planned to debut an “Apple Intelligence Siri” alongside iOS 18, but the project fell short of its standards. The company has since shifted to a second-generation LLM-based architecture, aimed at giving Siri continuous conversational ability, human-like responses, and more advanced task handling. The upgraded assistant is expected to roll out in early 2026 with iOS 26.4, about a year later than initially planned.
Beyond brains, Apple is reportedly planning a visual redesign for Siri in late 2025, giving it a more “humanoid” identity to signal a fresh start. Talks with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google suggest that future Siri may not be fully Apple-built, breaking tradition with the company’s in-house-first approach. For now, only Apple’s engineers get to try Veritas, but the aim is to finally transform Siri from a dated voice helper into a genuine conversational partner.
