Apple using ChatGPT? This is how iPhone maker is using the AI chatbot – The Indian Express

Apple is exploring how to leverage generative AI across its organisation. According to a Bloomberg newsletter, the company has an internal chatbot that enables employees to test upcoming features, summarise text, and respond to queries based on the data it has learned from.
Another report last week revealed that Apple was building its own artificial intelligence large language models in-house. However, it was unclear how Apple would integrate these LLMs into its products. Now it seems that the company is using them internally.
One potential use case is providing the tool to its AppleCare support staff to assist customers better.
However, this may not happen anytime soon. Apple CEO stated in a May earnings call that there are “a number of issues that need to be sorted” with AI. That could include AI chatbots’ propensity to confuse facts and even invent information.
As the report notes, Apple will probably proceed with its AI plans more cautiously than what we have seen with Google, Microsoft, or many others that are eager to incorporate generative AI into their products. Still, Apple sources reportedly told Bloomberg recently that the company will have a “significant AI-related announcement” next year.
The caution is understandable. For instance, after finding out that staff uploaded sensitive code to ChatGPT, Samsung Electronics Co. prohibited employees from using the AI chatbot and other generative AI tools in May. AI chatbots tend to make mistakes often and until this is resolved, Apple may refrain from using them.
