(TNND) — ChatGPT announced a new study mode feature for students.
Instead of spelling out straight answers to prompts, the artificial intelligence will write out answers step by step.
Free access users will also be able to operate in study mode.
Study mode is designed to help students be more engaged and interact with their work, the company said. Students also tested out the tool for themselves. Teachers also collaborated with the company in creating the tool.
Key features of study mode
A recent study from MIT's Media Lab suggests that frequent use of ChatGPT could impair critical thinking skills, particularly among younger users.
Among participants who used artificial intelligence to write SAT essays, researchers found that those using ChatGPT had the lowest brain engagement.
Initially, participants used ChatGPT for structural assistance, but over time, they tended to copy full responses.
