Cloudflare announced the expansion of Project Galileo to help nonprofit organizations and independent media, in monitoring and controlling how AI services access content on their websites.
Program participants consisting of 750 journalists, independent news organizations, and non-profit organizations supporting worldwide news gathering will have access to the management of bots and AI Crawl Control Cloudflare to protect their websites from a free unwanted AI financing.
This expansion is in line with the increasing challenges for non-profit and news organizations in transitioning to AI-backed webs. The more people who use AI models to obtain information, they tend not to visit the original website where information comes from.
“I believe in journalism, and I believe that local and independent news accuracy is very important to the internet and a healthy society,” said Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare.
When it was first launched, Project Galileo, was designed to help stop cyberattacks that could silence the voices of journalists and human rights workers online.
“Now, this vision is widespread and we want to ensure the evolution of AI goes according to their wishes, not the other way around,” added Matthew.
Since 2014, Project Galileo Cloudflare has helped protect non-profit organizations, journalists, human rights defenders, and vulnerable groups from cyber threats.
Earlier this year, Cloudflare announced how it helps big publishers and content creators of all types to better control and monitor how AI users access content on their websites.
Now, Cloudflare wants to provide the tools it needs for free, to more nonprofit organizations and journalists and help them adapt better to AI-backed webs.
Cloudflare is also committed to expanding access to AI tools for nonprofit organizations and public interest organizations to better modernize their way of using and building with AI to support their mission.
