While the entire world is heavily depending on OpenAI’s chatbot, ChatGPT for assistance in office work, the company’s CEO Sam Altman recently warned against trusting it. He was speaking at the inaugural episode of OpenAI’s official podcast. Altman said people had high degree of trust in ChatGPT but AI is infallible and can give misleading or faulty content. “People have a very high degree of trust in ChatGPT, which is interesting, because AI hallucinates. It should be the tech that you don’t trust that much,” Altman said.
Altman agreed that ChatGPT is continuing to evolve with latest and new features but the technology still has its limitations and they need to be addressed with honesty and transparency, he said. On the new updates including persistent memory and an ad-supported model, the OpenAI CEO said fresh privacy concerns cropped up due to those features.
The OpenAI CEO’s remarks gain significance in the wake of the company facing legal challenges from media outlets like The New York Times, over content use and copyright issues. Recently, Altman also took a U-turn on his stance over AI hardware requirement. Earlier, he said the AI revolution wouldn’t require new hardware but he now claims that current computers designed without an idea about AI need to be replaced with new devices, as AI becomes more prevalent these days.
