April Fry, Director of the Center for Academic Success, attended the SGA meeting on Oct. 16 and discussed the new Frankie AI chatbot.
Fry told the student senators that the idea for the chatbot was proposed to her by Vice President for Academic Affairs Mike McGinnis. The two then discussed the idea of a chatbot with officials at other universities that had already implemented something similar.
A chatbot engagement report was distributed to the senators. Fry told the group that she hopes to see engagement with the chatbot increase because she believes it is a very useful tool.
Senators suggested using Frankie as a marketing tool to advertise SGA or SAO events. They also discussed it potentially being implemented into my.francis to serve as a directory.
Other topics discussed at last week’s meeting were the ongoing complaints regarding the student commuter lot. Many non-commuters are parking their cars in the lot. Also discussed were plans to bring back hot chocolate, provide whole milk on tap, and add a potential “Blizzard Bar” at Torvian.
The topic of Torvian pizza toppings was motioned to be discussed and approved after Torvian staff members noted that they were looking for new ideas regarding toppings. One senator commented that “mushrooms are great, pineapple is evil.”
The next SGA Meeting is scheduled for Oct. 23.
