Is ChatGPT down? Users report being unable to use AI chatbot during outage – London Evening Standard
News | Tech
ChatGPT is down for thousands of users who reported that they were unable to use the desktop website and app for the artificial intelligence chatbot on Tuesday .
At the time of writing, the desktop version of ChatGPT is still suffering from issues. When users of the AI tool make requests, they are met with messages like: “Hmm…something seems to have gone wrong.”
OpenAI acknowledged the issues on its status page, saying that: “We’re currently experiencing issues.”
“Some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency across the listed services,” the company continued. “We are continuing to investigate the issue.”
The company’s internal investigation shows that the issues have been going on for two hours. There’s no word on how soon users can expect to see a resolution for the issues just yet.
Users are taking to social media to complain about the outage.
“Apparently Chatgpt is down globally,” wrote one user. “I thought my internet was glitching.”
“Why does my ChatGPT show an error in message stream? I’m about to break down,” wrote another on X.
Outage tracker Downdetector detected a spike in users reporting problems using the platform, reaching as high as 1,136 reports by 10:05am. Tens of thousands more people reported the issue after that.
91% report issues with ChatGPT in general, with 7% to do with the website and 3% to do with the app.
Chat GPT has free and premium modes and can have human-like conversations with users, answering questions and completing tasks. It can also be used to write code, which has made it indispensable for many working in IT.
The programme launched in November 2022 and the premium mode went live in February.
The last time it saw in outage was back on January 24, 2025, which was resolved in a matter of hours. Hopefully, the same can be said for the current outage, although nothing has yet been confirmed by OpenAI.
