Microsoft has quietly launched its dedicated Copilot app for Android users. The app, which has been introduced on the Google Play Store, provides users with access to Microsoft’s AI-powered Copilot without requiring the Bing mobile app. The launch of the Copilot app for Android marks a significant step in enhancing the standalone Copilot experience, offering a range of AI capabilities and features.
According to Neowin, the Copilot app for Android has been available for nearly a week, introducing a host of functionalities reminiscent of ChatGPT. Users can leverage chatbot capabilities, generate images using DALL-E 3, and draft text for emails and documents seamlessly within the app. Notably, the Copilot app also includes complimentary access to OpenAI’s latest GPT-4 model, a feature that is not available for free in the ChatGPT ecosystem.
The unveiling of the Copilot app for Android comes just over a month after Microsoft rebranded Bing Chat to Copilot. Initially, Microsoft integrated a ChatGPT-like interface into the Bing search engine earlier this year, changing the way users interacted with search results. While the Bing Chat integration is still available, Microsoft has shifted its focus by dropping the Bing Chat branding and transforming Copilot into a more standalone experience. The Copilot app now has its dedicated domain at copilot.microsoft.com, paralleling the structure of ChatGPT.
Microsoft’s decision to launch a mobile app for Copilot signifies the logical progression of expanding the standalone Copilot experience. This move aligns with the recent rebranding of Bing Chat Enterprise to Copilot, showcasing Microsoft’s commitment to consolidating its AI offerings under a unified and easily accessible platform.
As of now, there is no indication of an iOS version of Copilot. However, given the rapid development and deployment of Microsoft’s AI initiatives, it is anticipated that an iOS version will soon follow suit. In the meantime, users with iPhones or iPads can continue to access Copilot features through the Bing app.
