Older Pixel phones get AI upgrades, theme packs, scam detection in chat apps, new support dashboard & Private AI Compute – PiunikaWeb

Google’s November 2025 Pixel Feature Drop is one of the most expansive in recent memory. Not just for what’s new, but for how many older Pixel phones are now joining in on experiences once limited to the Pixel 10.
Over the past day, Google has rolled out updates that touch nearly every aspect of the Pixel experience, ranging from health dashboards and AI notifications to scam detection and photo remixing, while also debuting the new Private AI Compute system that powers smarter, cloud-assisted features like Magic Cue.
Here are some of the major new features for Pixel users courtesy of this update.
After launching with the Pixel 10, the Google Journal app is now available for the Pixel 8 and 9 series. It helps users document thoughts, track moods, and add memories with photos, videos, and activity data. The latest version (2025.10.09.819057738) also introduces a full-screen account menu, but remember to force stop the app after updating.
Meanwhile, the familiar “Tips & support” section at the bottom of the Settings app is being replaced by a Device health & support dashboard. This one-stop hub brings together your phone’s Battery health, Device temperature, Storage, and Software updates in one place. It also includes diagnostics shortcuts, warranty info, and a new AI chatbot-powered “Need help with your Pixel?” search bar.
The new support dashboard is rolling out to Pixel 6 through 9 after debuting on the Pixel 10.
Google has introduced a new AI architecture called Private AI Compute, designed to make cloud-assisted features smarter without compromising user privacy. It’s described as a secure, fortified space for processing sensitive data that even Google can’t access, using a hardware-secured, sealed cloud environment.
The system, developed jointly by Google’s Platform and Devices, DeepMind, and Cloud teams, allows AI features like Magic Cue to tap into cloud-based Gemini models for faster and more timely suggestions while still relying on on-device Gemini Nano for core processing.
Magic Cue now uses Private AI Compute to surface more relevant prompts across Google Messages, the Phone app, Weather, and Gboard. Google Recorder also leverages it for transcription summaries in additional languages. Users can even check when Private AI Compute is active via the Network Usage log in Developer Options.
The concept is similar to Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, but tailored for Google’s AI stack, signaling a major new direction for Pixel AI.
Scam Detection is no longer limited to calls and texts. With the latest update, Pixel phones can now warn you about potential scams in notifications from chat apps like WhatsApp, Signal, and X (formerly Twitter).
When a suspicious message comes in, your Pixel will display a “Likely scam” alert. This is part of Google’s expanded safety suite that now covers more regions. Scam Detection for calls is rolling out to the UK, Ireland, India, Australia, and Canada for Pixel 9 and newer models (excluding the 9a).
The new layer of protection aims to tackle the growing wave of social scams without requiring users to open messages or grant extra permissions.
Google’s AI-powered notification summaries are officially rolling out to the Pixel 9 series and newer (except the 9a). In what is another Apple-esque move, the feature recaps lengthy messages across chat apps to help users keep up with long threads. But unlike Apple’s implementation, Google’s approach is narrower, focusing only on conversations, not general app alerts.
Summaries appear right in the notification shade and are limited to 50 per day, generated about three minutes after messages between 25–200 words are received. If you’d rather not have AI trim your chats, you can toggle the feature off in Settings.
For the first time, Pixel users can now apply theme packs. These are one-tap personalization bundles that change wallpapers, icons, sounds, and even Gboard themes. The debut collection is inspired by Wicked: For Good! and includes three packs, namely “For Good,” “Glinda,” and “Elphaba.”
Theme packs are available for Pixel 6 and above, accessible via the Wallpaper & style settings. Each pack can be customized or applied wholesale, and they’ll be available until January 31, 2026, hinting that Google may rotate themes seasonally.
Rounding out the drop, Google Messages now includes Remix, a Gemini-powered photo editor using the Nano Banana image model. You can long-press an image in a chat, tap the new “Remix” button, and describe what changes you’d like.
Google suggests prompts like “make a mini figure” or “add a film look,” with all creations marked by a Gemini spark watermark. Remix is launching first for RCS users in English across the US, UK, Canada, India, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, with broader rollout to follow. The feature is available for Pixel 6 and newer devices as well as the rest of the Android community.
This addition joins Photomoji and Selfie GIFs as part of Google’s growing AI toolkit in Messages.
With Pixel 10 now standing as Android’s AI showcase, older models are quickly catching up, ensuring that Google’s vision of helpful AI and deeper personalization isn’t limited to just one generation of devices.
Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it’s been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google’s smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
