OpenAI’s latest move could change how you use the Internet – Cleveland.com
OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Atlas, an AI-powered web browser designed to integrate its popular chatbot directly into the browsing experience.
The browser debuted worldwide for macOS users Tuesday, with versions for Windows, iOS and Android expected soon, the company announced.
According to OpenAI, unlike traditional browsers, Atlas embeds ChatGPT into its interface, allowing users to summarize pages, draft emails, analyze code and automate tasks without switching tabs. A dedicated sidebar labeled “Ask ChatGPT” provides real-time assistance, while features like Browser Memory personalize responses by recalling past activity.
A standout feature of the new browser is agent mode, which enables ChatGPT to perform multi-step tasks such as booking reservations, creating shopping lists or compiling research, OpenAI said. However, the feature is limited to paid Plus and Pro subscribers. OpenAI said agent mode operates only within browser tabs and cannot access local files, addressing privacy concerns.
Users can import bookmarks and passwords from other browsers during setup, according to OpenAI.
