ChatGPT down LIVE: OpenAI experiences major global outage as users face issues – mirror.co.uk

Artificial intelligence organisation OpenAI is experiencing a global outage.
ChatGPT users have reported lag issues, timeouts and the app crashing. OpenAI has confirmed they are "experiencing issues" and "working on implementing a mitigation."
The problem appears to be widespread.
On social media, people have reported they are still experiencing issues.
A person said on Reddit: "Ive been unable to use chat gpt for 3 days… it doesnt respond to any prompt…" [sic]
Another posted: "My ChatGPT has been down for over a week now, actually. I can use regular ChatGPT being logged in but cannot access my account.
"Have had to rely on Gemini (yuck) and am setting up Perplexity (have a free year of premium). Considering canceling ChatGPT since I have not been able to use it."
OpenAI makes revenue from premium subscriptions to ChatGPT but most users get the free version.
The company introduced its own web browser, Atlas, in October, an attempt to compete with Google's Chrome as more internet users rely on AI to answer their questions.
But OpenAI hasn't yet tried to sell ads on ChatGPT, which is how Google makes money from its dominant search business.
Nick Turley, an OpenAI vice president and its head of ChatGPT, posted on social media on Monday that online search is one of the product's biggest areas of opportunity as the company focuses on making ChatGPT more capable and "even more intuitive and personal."
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has set off a "code red" alert to employees to improve its flagship product, ChatGPT, and delay other product developments, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The newspaper reporetd that Altman sent an internal memo to staff on Monday saying more work was needed to enhance the artificial intelligence chatbot's speed, reliability and personalisation features.
This week marks three years since OpenAI first released ChatGPT, sparking global fascination and a commercial boom in generative AI technology and giving the San Francisco-based startup an early lead.
But the company faces increased competition with rivals, including Google, which last month unleashed Gemini 3, the latest version of its own AI assistant.
ChatGPT users have shared their frustration online after being left unable to use the platform.
A person wrote on Reddit: "Down for me. First was error message attaching files and now everything is gone."
Another said: "Mine said unusual activity has been detected, so I tried to log out and log back in, and now I can't log in lol."
A third wrote: "Got an error code saying 'too many concurrent requests, try again later' or something like that."
OpenAI has now confirmed it has "applied the mitigation" and is monitoring the recovery of the problem.
"We have applied the mitigation and are monitoring the recovery," the company said in its latest update.
In a new status update, OpenAI confirmed users are experiencing "degraded performance" on ChatGPT.
The artificial intelligence organisation, headquartered in San Francisco, California, wrote: "We are investigating the issue for the listed services."
Open AI said ChatGPT is experiencing in increasing error rates.
"We have identified that users are experiencing elevated errors for the impacted services.," OpenAI said.
"We are working on implementing a mitigation."
OpenAI has confirmed it is experiencing issues this evening.
ChatGPT users have been reporting problems with the artificial intelligence platform.
