Federal bureaucrats will get access to a ChatGPT-style artificial intelligence engine from 2026, and huge swaths of government data will be allowed to be uploaded to public AI platforms in a push to boost use of the technology across the public service.
The government will also require departments to appoint a chief AI officer, streamline procurement of artificial intelligence services and move to a whole-of-government cloud policy to allow more adoption of the technology.
