OpenAI has announced two major UK developments this week, deploying ChatGPT Enterprise at the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and unveiling new generative video model Sora 2 at the company’s DevDay Exchange in London. OpenAI’s Rupert Truman and Shaig Abduragimov shared the news in LinkedIn posts following the event.
The deployment gives 2,500 MoJ employees access to ChatGPT Enterprise with new UK Data Residency support, enabling local data storage to meet national privacy standards.
Truman, Go-To-Market Lead at OpenAI, described the rollout as “a real highlight” of his time at the company, saying the goal is to “empower civil servants with safe and secure access to AI as they conduct their important work.”
The initiative follows a July partnership between OpenAI and the British government to explore how AI can improve public services.
Speaking at the OpenAI Frontiers event, Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy said AI tools were already improving efficiency across the justice system, citing the new Justice Transcribe tool that records and transcribes probation interviews.
“By adopting AI, we’re cutting the burdensome admin and ensuring frontline staff can spend more of their time doing the things only humans can do – monitoring offenders and protecting the British public,” Lammy said.
At OpenAI’s London event, Abduragimov reflected on the response to Sora 2, following its recent release.
He wrote: “We showcased Sora 2 following its recent release — and seeing innovators and developers jump in, stress-test ideas, and push boundaries with generative video was genuinely energising.”
Abduragimov said the team discussed “how Sora can accelerate iteration cycles for storytellers and product teams” and “how dynamic video can bring far more context into apps, especially learning apps, than text or static visuals alone.”
He added: “Thank you to every builder, founder, designer, engineer, and educator who stopped by — your feedback is already shaping what’s next.”
