ChatGPT users can now talk with the AI chatbot: Here’s how to enable voice chat – The Indian Express

OpenAI has been constantly adding some quality-of-life features to its AI-powered chatbot – ChatGPT. Today, the company announced that it will soon be rolling out new voice and image capabilities to the chatbot, allowing users to ask questions using their voice and get human-like responses.
According to OpenAI, ChatGPT users on mobile can now engage with users in a “back-and-forth conversation”, meaning users can ask the chatbot questions and get responses in real time.
To find the new feature, open the ChatGPT app on your mobile, head over to the app ‘Settings’ and you will find the option to enable voice chat under the ‘New Features’ section. OpenAI says the chatbot makes use of Whisper, the company’s open-sourced speech recognition system to transcribe spoken words into text.
While the new voice technology can impersonate people and generate ‘realistic synthetic voices’, the company has limited the new voice chat feature to only work with voice actors OpenAI has directly worked with.

It looks like OpenAI has added another useful feature that lets users show ChatGPT images to ” troubleshoot why your grill won’t start, explore the contents of your fridge to plan a meal, or analyze a complex graph for work-related data.” The company says users will be able to focus on a particular part of the image using the drawing tool in the mobile app.
To use the feature, simply upload a photo using your camera or tap the photo button. If you are on mobile, press the plus button to get the aforementioned options. Powered by GPT 3.5 and GPT 4, the image recognition feature works across photographs, documents and screenshots.
OpenAI says voice chat and image recognition features will be available to ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise users in the next 14 days, so you might have to wait a while before it is available on your device. ChatGPT Plus costs approx. Rs 1,600 per month in India.
