OpenAI has released a dedicated ChatGPT app for Android users in the Google Play Store. This comes a few months after the iOS version was launched, which brought the chatbot to iPhones and iPads. The app is currently available in the US, India, Bangladesh, and Brazil, with plans to expand to other countries in the future.
The release of the Android app follows a decline in web traffic and app installations for ChatGPT in June, as reported by Sensor Tower and Similarweb data. Previously, ChatGPT had experienced significant success until the launch of Threads. It remains to be seen if the hype surrounding ChatGPT will continue or if it has reached a plateau.
OpenAI’s GPT-4 model, which powers ChatGPT, is also used by the Bing AI chatbot. Bing AI has been available on Android for several months, while Google’s Bard AI only relies on a web interface and does not have a dedicated app.
While many tech companies are introducing AI-powered tools for mobile apps, Apple has not yet launched its own chatbot. However, a recent Bloomberg report revealed that Apple is internally testing a chatbot of its own.
