08 February 2024- As the Artificial Intelligence (AI) phenomenon sweeps the nation, the Pennsylvania House Republican Policy Committee hosted a critically important hearing on AI, its role in our everyday lives and how to ensure its responsible use and advancement.
This comes after the PA House GOP announced that they will be creating a task force especially to legislate A.I. use in the Commonwealth.
Testifiers included:
Charles Palmer, associate professor and program lead of Interactive Media, Harrisburg University of Science and Technology.
Margaret Durkin, executive director – PA and the Mid-Atlantic Region, TechNet.

Artificial Intelligence in the form of ChatGPT.
“The significance of generative AI in our contemporary world cannot be overstated,” said Palmer. “It stands at the cusp of revolutionizing how we conceive, create and interact with digital content.”
Republican policymakers in Pennsylvania recognize the revolution. Earlier this week, House Republican Leader Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) announced the formation of the AI Opportunity Task Force to “inform future legislative policy decisions relating to artificial intelligence.”
“As we seek to better understand the implications of AI technology, it was essential that our committee host a public discourse with experts,” said Chairman Josh Kail (R-Beaver/Washington). “We need to be educated, well-versed and poised to take advantage of utilizing AI to our benefit while also setting guardrails to prevent misuse. This may have been our first hearing on AI, but it certainly won’t be the last.”
